Yellow Pages Association (YPA) Advertising Competition

The 2007-2008 Yellow Pages Association (YPA) Advertising Competition provides real-world experience for students interested in pursuing an education or career in advertising, marketing, graphic design or related fields. Competition winners and their faculty sponsors will share in nearly $10,000 in total prize awards.

Beyond providing valuable experience and monetary prizes, the competition is designed to reward and showcase excellence in student-created advertising. Competition winners will have their work displayed on the YPA Academic web site and the work will be honored at the YPA Annual Convention.

A great learning experience

Last year over 1,500 students at 213 schools participated. 100% of instructors and 98% of students were pleased with their experience. Representative comments included:

- Loved the entire experience.

NEW THIS YEAR: A real client

Terminix has agreed to serve as this year's client. Students entering the 2007-2008 competition will create two Yellow Pages print ads and one Internet Yellow Pages ad for this client, who will also play a significant role in the competition judging. Students can work alone or in teams of up to three, under the supervision of a faculty advisor. Multiple teams can enter from the same class or school and the entry can be the result of an in-class assignment, if desired. All entries are due by April 25, 2008.

You can view and download all of the competition materials at the competition materials page (http://www.ypa-academics.org/cc/compet_download_creative.html). You can also directly download the case study which details the competition assignment by clicking on this link: Download case study.

Your students can obtain all of the competition materials after they complete the free registration at the Competition Registration section of the competition web site.

A great way for students to improve both their finances and job prospects after graduation

Prize awards will be distributed as follows:

1st Place: $2,500 to winning team; $750 to faculty sponsor

2nd Place: $1,500 to winning team; $500 to faculty sponsor

3rd Place: $750 to winning team; $350 to faculty sponsor

Honorable Mentions (up to 3): $300 to winning team; $200 to faculty sponsor

Beyond monetary prizes, entry and success in the competition can help students beef-up their resumes. All competition winners will receive a personal letter of commendation from Neg Norton, President, YPA.

Easy to participate - all support materials available online

We've developed a detailed case study, provided Terminix's and competitor's ads as well as other materials to minimize your work while at the same time improving your students' chances of developing a winning entry. All of these materials are accessible through the Materials page at the competition web site.

We've also prepared a flyer that you can use to announce the competition to your class. The flyer can be downloaded here: Download flyer.
